Introducing Our Partners in Crime

Battle of Three simply couldn’t happen without them!

Our Event Partners, Community Partners and Supporting Sponsors are helping us bring this fast-paced brewing battle to Aotearoa for the first time. From the venue, competition coffee and equipment to prizes, products and all the important behind-the-scenes bits, their support brings the whole event together.

More importantly, they share our belief that a strong coffee industry is built through connection, shared knowledge, fun events and a little healthy competition.

A huge thank you to every partner and supporter for backing Battle of Three, supporting our coffee community and helping create an event that brings competitors, volunteers, coffee professionals and spectators together.

Meet the excellent humans and businesses helping us make it happen below.

La Marzocco — Event & Venue Partner

Always bringing the good times and excellent vibes, La Marzocco New Zealand is opening the doors to its new Auckland home and giving Battle of Three the perfect place to get loud, get competitive and bring our coffee community together.

La Marzocco is a passionate team and company, both here in Aotearoa and around the world. They know a thing or two about creating welcoming spaces, supporting great events and helping build a strong, connected and healthy coffee community.

We’re made up to have them alongside us as both our Event and Venue Partner for the very first Battle of Three New Zealand.

C4 Coffee Co. — Event & Coffee Partner

Well, for an event that needs excellent coffee and plenty of brewing equipment, who else would you call?

The brilliant team at C4 Coffee Co. Led into battle by Oliver, have well and truly come up with the goods. They’re helping provide the tools our competitors will battle with, while also selecting and roasting the all-important competition coffee in Christchurch.

Every competitor will work with the same core equipment, coffee and water. From there, it comes down to recipe, technique, strategy and what they can deliver in four very short minutes.

Competition Coffee

The full coffee announcement is still to come, but we can tell you that a rather lovely washed Colombian may be preparing to enter the battle. Watch this space…

AMC Roastery Supply — Community Partner

Supporting coffee events since waaaay back…

With 60 years in coffee equipment and more than 18 years supporting the New Zealand Coffee Championships, the team at AMC Roastery Supply knows its stuff. More importantly, they understand the value of backing events that bring our coffee community together.

For Battle of Three, AMC is providing the Mahlkönig X64 SD as the compulsory grinder, giving every competitor the same starting point.

They’re also providing a brand-new Mahlkönig X64 SD for the Battle of Three Aotearoa Champion to take home. A pretty excellent prize from a team that continues to support our industry and the people within it.

HARIO — Community Partner

When you think of manual brewing, HARIO is often one of the first names that comes to mind. They’ve been shaping the world of brewed coffee since waaaay before it was cool, so it’s fair to say they know a thing or two about getting the best from a brew.

Through our Event Partner C4 Coffee Co., HARIO is providing the core brewing equipment for the battle. The HARIO NEO 02 can be used with either a standard or Switch Immersion base, giving competitors different ways to tweak their brew. There will also be three filter-paper options to experiment with.

All equipment will be provided on the day. However, if you’re serious about perfecting your recipe before battle night, it might be time to upgrade that home setup and get practising.

Maeve — Community Partner

One of the newest names on Auckland’s coffee scene, Maeve roasts, brews and serves with intention, and clearly isn’t afraid of getting behind something a little different.

The team roasts small batches on a ROEST P3000 and has two Auckland homes: its roastery café and HQ on Anzac Avenue, and a neighbourhood garage coffee shop in Grey Lynn.

The fresh concept behind Battle of Three caught their attention, but Ewan and the team also genuinely believe in supporting their coffee community. They want to help bring fun events like this to life and create more opportunities for people to connect over great coffee.

We’re very happy to have this excellent new crew joining our partners in crime and backing the community they’re part of.

Meadow Fresh — Community Partner

The team at Meadow Fresh has a well-earned reputation for backing our people and supporting the hospitality industry across Aotearoa.

Yes, you probably think milk when you hear Meadow Fresh, but they’re so much more than milk. Meadow Fresh is part of Goodman Fielder, a team that has been supporting Kiwi homes and hospitality businesses with trusted products since waaaay back.

There’s definitely a theme here: great people getting behind our coffee community and helping bring fun events like Battle of Three to life.

On the night, there may be chocolate milk, because why wouldn’t there be? Perhaps a Cool Change or two as well, alongside some delicious cheese, meats and a platter or two to graze on while the battle unfolds.

Tongariro Water — Supporting Sponsor & Official Water

Thanks to our Official Water Sponsor, competitors across the country will be able to practise using the same water they’ll brew with on battle night.

For those who know, water is kind of critical, brewed coffee is mostly water, after all. There are no custom water recipes or cooling brews in Battle of Three, and every coffee must be brewed and served within the required temperature range. The same water gives everyone a consistent starting point.

Tongariro Water has long been a go-to for people who know their water. Sourced from deep beneath Tongariro National Park, it is naturally filtered through volcanic rock and available in premium still and sparkling formats.

The Tongariro team is proud to support an event celebrating quality, craft and the people shaping New Zealand’s specialty coffee industry. We’re amped to have them joining us and providing the all-important water for the battle, because great coffee deserves exceptional water!

Cafetto — Supporting Sponsor, Official Cleaning Partner & Goodie Bag Provider

Chris and the Cafetto team have long been advocates for having a good time while keeping things clean. Yes, the pun is absolutely intended.

When every competitor is using the same coffee and equipment, consistency matters. Cafetto will be helping keep the brewing gear clean and competition-ready between rounds, as well as giving the grinder some proper attention at the end, because cleaning involves far more than soaking a few bits of equipment.

They’re also providing the official tote bags for the competitor and volunteer goodies, helping us fill them with some excellent swag. There may even be a giveaway or two on the night.

Cafetto is proud to support a fair fight that keeps the focus where it belongs: on the skill, creativity and great coffee brought to the battle by everyone taking part.

Loring — Supporting Sponsor & Official Roasting Equipment Partner

Loring Smart Roast has joined the battle through Lachlan and the team at CT Roasting Solutions, and their involvement begins well before anyone steps up to brew.

Our competition coffee will be roasted on a Loring by our Coffee and Event Partner, C4 Coffee Co. in Christchurch. This means Loring will play an important part in shaping the coffee every competitor receives, practises with and ultimately serves on battle night.

It’s a natural connection to the event, and we’re very happy to have Loring supporting both the coffee being showcased and the people bringing it to life.
